Trinity Laban Award Scholar

Min Young Bae, from South Korea, began to play the piano when she was seven. In 2002 she moved to the UK and joined the Stanborough Secondary School, studying with Jiae Ahn. In 2005 she joined the Yehudi Menuhin School and while there, took part in several concerts at Bradford Cathedral, the Swiss Ambassador’s Residence Fairfield Halls, Finchley Arts Depot, Stationers Hall, St John’s Smith Square, Music in Beaulieu and Wigmore Hall. She performed with members of the Schubert Ensemble in a concert for the Stoke D’Abernon Festival 2006 and in 2008 and 2009 she was chosen as part of a group from the school for a tour of Scotland. She also performed Mozart’s Piano Concerto No 14 with the Yehudi Menuhin School Orchestra.

In 2010 Min gained a place at the Royal College of Music in London as a scholar where she studied the piano with Professor Ruth Nye and graduated in 2014. She has since begun her postgraduate study at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance as a scholar receiving the Trinity Laban Award and studying with Deniz Gelenbe. Min has taken parts in piano festivals at the Royal College of Music and undertaken masterclasses with Victor Rosenbaum, Piers Lane, Renana Gutman, Joanna MacGregor, Vanessa Latarche, Felix Gottlieb, Stanislav Pochekin and Dmitri Alexeev. She has gained several awards including the Joy Evers Cup in music and the DEME award from South England Conference. A prize at the Jellinek Awards led to a performance of Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No 3 with the Guildford Symphony Orchestra.

Min has participated in several competitions, and reached the semi-final of the 8th Adilia Alieva international competition in Gaillard, France, and won 3rd prize in the 10th International Competition in Padova, Italy. This year she won 1st Prize in the John Longmire Piano Competition, and 2nd Prize and the audience prize at the 2014 Beethoven Senior Intercollegiate Piano Competition. In 2015 Min was one of three semi-finalists of the Jacques Samuel Piano Competition.
